Former Armenian Prime Minister Armen Sargsyan will be appointed to “public office”. Lydian International - a gold-focused mineral exploration and development company operating Amulsar mine in Armenia, announced that Armen Sargsyan has resigned as a non-executive director of the company, Mediamax reports. Armen Sargsyan was appointed member of the board and non-executive director of Lydian International in March 2013. “Dr. Sargsyan advised the Company that he has resigned from his position in view of his pending appointment to public office”, the statement by Lydian International reads this. According to recent publications, Armen Sargsyan was supposed to take up the post of Armenia’s Ambassador to UK which was vacant after former Ambassador Karine Ghazinyan had passed away. Armen Sargsyan was Prime Minister of Armenia from 1996-1997. Prior to that, he was the Armenian Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Armen Sargsyan has served as Special Advisor to the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and as a Governor of the EBRD from 1999-2000. In 2000, Armen Sargsyan established the Eurasia Research Programme at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. Under his directorship, the Programme has implemented a series of successful projects in both England and the Eurasia region.He is founding President of Eurasia House International in London, which fosters critical dialogue and cooperation among political and business leaders and is involved in bridge building between the West and the vast geographic space extending from Eastern Europe to Russia, the CIS and to China. Armen Sargsyan has been Senior Executive Advisor to the Board of Directors and Chairman of a host of global companies, including BP, Alcatel, Telefonica, Finmeccanica and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
