The study results of building a new 3-kilometer long line of Yerevan Metro to Ajapnyak administrative district carried out by URS British Consulting Company were presented to Yerevan Municipality.As Yerevan Municipality Information and Public Relations Department informed, the study was carried out upon the funds of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) within the framework of Yerevan Municipality and EBRD cooperation. URS Company representative David Dennis presented four main options for the new line. The consultant pointed out that researches on the operation and the rolling stock and the initial demand were carried out as well as an assessment of the economic and passenger flow forecast. Touching upon the possible option of building the line outlined based on the previous main layout David Dennis noted that additional drilling works will be carried out which will result in additional spending, while they have selected cheaper options.Deputy Yerevan Mayor Vahe Nikoyan highlighted the development of Yerevan metro and noted that the program is long-anticipated by Yerevan residents and in case of implementation will result in both traffic unloading and more effective transportation. According to him, Yerevan metro development is included in the 2005-2020 main layout of capital Yerevan as a process of vital significance.Vahe Nikoyan informed that the recommendations of the feasibility study will be used in discussions of Yerevan’s prospective development opportunities.
