Ruben Vardanyan won’t build second Troika but rather a Rothschild bank

Russian businessman and philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan said that “we created a small boutique, “Vardanyan, Broitman and Partners”, which provide stock management services to portfolio companies and direct and venture investments funds as well as advisory services”.

Ruben Vardanyan said this in his interview to Vedomosti newspaper.

“We also manage a real estate fund. We will be engaged in customer consultancy, sharing our knowledge and experience as co-investors of the projects. We will get involved in various projects with my direct capital as well as money of our customers and partners”, said Ruben Vardanyan.

“Our company currently has 2 partners - it’s me and Mikhail Broitman who used to be Troika’s Executive Director. We have been working together for already 20 years. He took part in such major deals as Rosgosstrakh, AvtoVAZ, Kamaz etc. The remaining are our employees but we think they will also be able to become co-owners in a certain stage. At the same time, I don’t want to build the second “Troika”. If drawing any parallels - it will more likely be Rothschild Bank the way it was 100-200 years ago”, noted Ruben Vardanyan.

“If you look at Rothschild Bank model which was engaged in M&A deals and advisory and let aside specific banking transactions - the business was set up on close ties and mutual trust. At that time, Europe wasn’t a united one as today and representatives of various European countries highly mistrusted each other. Rothschild knew everyone in Europe - starting from businessman up to ministers of finance and prime ministers - and could  deal with very different people. Thus he contributed to strengthening to ties among separate European countries, among other things.

Rothschild model can also be applied in Russia. We live in a transition period when many processes are not yet formed up though already over 20 years passed since the start of changes in our country. The level of mistrust among various society groups, business and investors is still very high. My big competitive edge is that I know many people and many people know me as a banker and trust my both as a professional and person. Perhaps, I have more advantages in this model than anyone else in our country”, said Ruben Vardanyan.
