Executive Director of Armenian National Competitiveness Foundation Arman Khachatryan said today that the open air policy may ensure at least 1.5% GDP growth for Armenia on a yearly basis. Arman Khachatryan stated this during his meeting with journalists presenting the way of carrying out sustainable and competitive air transportation in Armenia, their benefits and prospects of economic development, Mediamax reports.According to him, the open air policy will ensure a GDP growth of USD300-450mln, will create 18-23thousand new workplaces in air transportation and tourism sphere, guarantee 20-25% growth of passengers and lead to 10-15% reduction of average ticket price. "Armenia is quite interesting for foreign carriers, and we're currently negotiating with a dozen of air carriers. The companies operating on the market already register increase in frequency of air transportation", said Arman Khachatryan. He noted that the open air policy implies full liberalization which will grant comprehensive rights to all the interested carriers, lead to institutional reforms and create a system of accreditation of the domestic companies as well as establishment of funds stimulating "public/private sector" cooperation. The government will support fast and effective implementation of the reforms, the private sectors will boost establishment of the foundation, "Zvartnots" airport will be a partner implementing programs for development of the field and the international organizations will provide technical and practical assistance for fast and effective implementation of the reforms.
