Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Union of Fish Breeders suggests the government not imposing fish breeding economies water meters, but estimating the water, used by them, using a different method. Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today, Chairman of Armenian Union of Fish Breeders Arkadi Gevorgyan stated that it would be more expedient to estimate the volume of water, entering the basin, by a time unit, and then to multiply it by the entire time of use. While explaining why fish breeders refuse to use water meters, Arkadi Gevorgyan stated that first of all, the latter will cost economies quite expensive (about 1000 EUR), and secondly, water meters may come out of use often because of stones, sand and salt, which come from the subsoil, or can be stolen, since many fish breeders have big economies and they cannot control the entire area. Arkadi Gevorgyan spoke categorically against the idea of closing or narrowing the transmission capacity of the wells, from which underground waters enter the basins of fish breeders, “since water under pressure will enter other layers of the ground and will lead to area waterlogging”. Among other contradictions, which have occurred between the Armenian government and the fish breeders, Arkadi Gevorgyan noted the change of the land status, used by fish breeding economies, from agricultural to industrial, which means multiple increase of the payment for each hectare. “Over the past few years, the aggregate volume of fish production in Armenia increased over ten times and made about 4.5 thousand tons, and the potential of the sector makes up to 60 thousand tons. Taking into account this fact, Armenian authorities should give the sector the chance to realize its potential and not oppress it in a phase of impetuous growth”, Arkadi Gevorgyan stated.
