Yerevan /Mediamax/. “Influence of the Global Crisis on Armenia. Long-Term and Short-Term Prospects” international conference will take place in Yerevan on July 7-8. As the Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan stated in Yerevan today, the conference will take place at the initiative of the Armenian International Policy and Economy Research Group (AIPRG) at the support of the Armenian government. According to Executive Director of AIPRG Arman Gabrielyan, during the two days’ long conference, they plan to discuss the following topics: consequences of the global crisis for developing and transitional economies and lessons for Armenia; efficiency of the Armenian government’s policy on overcoming the consequences of the crisis; prospects to improve competitiveness and economic growth of Armenia; economic consequences of opening the border with Turkey and Armenia’s new role in the region. The conference will be attended by representatives of international organizations and economists from Romania, Ukraine, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Russia and Latvia. It “will be difficult to turn back” the economic decline, registered in the QI Forecasts on the Armenian economy in many respects depend on the global economic tendencies, Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan stated today. Mediamax reports that the Minister referred to IMF forecasts, according to which the peak of economy decline in developed countries will fall on the end of 2009. Nerses Yeritsyan noted that according to the forecasts of many experts, in 2010 improvement of the situation is expected and “in this respect, our economy is not separated from the global tendencies”. The Minister admitted that the economic decline at the volume of 6.1%, registered in Armenia in the first quarter of 2009, “will be difficult to turn back”. “In July, we expect inflow of financial means from outside, which will allow mitigating the decline”, the Minister stated.
