Discussions on preparing Armenia to talks with EU on free trade agreement are in process in Yerevan today between the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and the economic fact-finding mission of the European Commission. Mediamax reports that the Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan stated at the launch that during the discussions definite goals to speed up Armenia’s integration to EU will be defined. “In case we reach the agreement, Armenia will receive a schedule and an action plan, the implementation of which will secure for local producers and exporters a business atmosphere, which meets European standards”, Nerses Yeritsyan stated. According to him, the main task for Armenia in the given direction is not adoption of new legislation, but securing its implementation and institutional reforms, to realize which Armenia is expecting assistance from EU. DG Trade Director in charge of Bilateral trade Ewa Synowiec stated that the mission wishes to receive “more information on Armenia’s plan concerning economy growth, particularly, in the sphere of trade”. “One should pay paramount attention to taking Armenia to the stage of talks on concluding a free trade agreement with EU”, Ewa Synowiec stated.
