In its efforts to contribute to an overall inclusive economy and empower MSMEs to seek greener and more inclusive development paths, the EBRD's GEFF conducted a multi-faceted study on gender, climate change, and green finance in Armenia in July-September of 2020. On 30 September 2021, the EBRD’s Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) will hold an online event titled “An Inclusive Green Economy for Armenia: Strengthening Women and Men-led MSMEs for a Sustainable Future” to present the main findings and recommendations of the research conducted, including the awareness of climate risks and adaptation strategies and how women and men access green finance. Key representatives from the financial, business, and policymaking sectors in Armenia will discuss ways to strengthen the position of women MSME-owners to secure a sustainable future for Armenia. The survey conducted among businesswomen and businessmen from key MSME sectors vulnerable to climate change exhibited that both Armenian women and men from all the country's regions acknowledge that climate change threatens their businesses and lives. However, men see this threat in a stronger way than women. The survey also found that the main barriers that hamper women´s adoption of measures to mitigate climate change losses are lack of affordable finance or own capital, limited knowledge about available options, and lack of clarity about medium- and long-term paybacks. Men see similar hurdles, though in all cases less pronouncedly than women. Nevertheless, women would adopt 65% and men 53% of the green measures inquired about. The public event will be held in Armenian and English languages with simultaneous translation and will take place on 30 September 2021 at 11:30 a.m. and.
