Caucasus Research Resource Center Armenia has conducted a survey for the World Bank on June 21-29 in order to understand the Armenian citizens’ awareness of the coronavirus, their perception of the pandemic, and attitude toward it.The results of the public survey show the following: - The coronavirus is currently perceived as the most pressing issue facing the country (36%) followed by unemployment (33%).- More than half (54%) of respondents stated that their financial situation has worsened due to the pandemic.- About one third (35%) has either lost a job or received fewer work hours as a result of the virus.- To make up for lost income, respondents spend less money on food (36%) and other necessities (43%).- Thirty percent (30%) of respondents believe their economic situation would remain unchanged 12 months from now while twenty-five (25%) believe it would improve.- One third (33%) believe their economic situation will worsen after one year. - Most believe that the government’s support packages for citizens were either extremely sufficient (19%) or somewhat sufficient (34%).- Despite approval for the government’s support packages, about two thirds (65%) stated that they have not benefited from any of the government’s support measures.- Among desired government support measures, postponing loan payment obligations received the most responses (27%) followed by subsidizing utility providers for payments (24%).- Close to 43% percent of respondents believed that it was likely that schools will reopen normally in September.
