Director of the National Security Service of Armenia (NSS) Artur Vanetsyan has announced today that former Minister of Finance, former head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Gagik Khachatryan will be detained this evening.

According to Vanetsyan, since early morning of August 27 the law enforcement bodies have been conducting specific activities in the houses, apartments and mansions that belong to Khachatryan and people affiliated with him.

“Gagik Khachatryan has not been arrested yet. The search continues, and he will be detained once it is completed. The criminal case was opened regarding embezzlement on an especially large scale and abuse of power. We do not rule out the possibility that the charges, which are to be brought, will increase to include other articles of the Criminal Code as well,” said Artur Vanetsyan.
