Yerevan/Mediamax/. Former head of the Central Bank of Armenia, Bagrat Asatryan, suggested bringing Reuters to responsibility for discrediting the Armenian banks.

“The Armenian banking sector is a mature system regulated by international standards, and the allegations that Iran uses the Armenian banks to avoid international sanctions are slander. We should immediately bring all those who disseminate such statements accountable and demand compensation,” former CB head said on the air of Kentron TV.

On August 21, Reuters published an article which said that Iran looks to Armenia to skirt international sanctions. The Central Bank of Armenia issued a statement in response, saying that the Armenian banks hold no correspondent accounts in Iranian financial organizations.
