According to the assessment of international experts, USD 1.5bln is necessary for modernization of Armenia’s irrigation system, which will allow avoiding 70% of irrigation water loss. Mediamax reports that Director of Program Implementation Office of the State Committee for Water Economy Adibek Kazaryan said this in Yerevan today. According to him, the infrastructure of Armenia’s irrigation system is 20-25-year-old, the pumping stations are worn out, new gravity systems should be built, which will reduce the energy expenses. Director of the Office informed that since 2004, the farmers’ debt for water makes AMD 6bln. The State Water Economy Committee services 220 thousand farmers on the territory of 130 thousand hectares.
