Yerevan /Mediamax/. “Despite various rumors, the Central Bank of Armenia carries out operations in the currency market only if there is the need to smooth out abrupt fluctuations of the exchange rate”, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank (CB) of Armenia Vache Gabrielyan stated today. Answering the question on what the reason for purchase of $8.5mln by the CB, registered in CB report on the activity in the currency market, was, Vache Gabrielyan stated that it was conditioned by CB’s striving to smooth out fluctuations to consolidate AMD. “If, for instance, in November CB smoothed fluctuations, directed to abrupt devaluation of AMD, in December, the opposite tendency is observed, and CB smoothes out abrupt fluctuations in the direction of AMD appreciation”, Vache Gabrielyan stated.
