U.S. Embassy's Fourth Annual Women’s Mentoring Program Launched in Yerevan today.Wife of U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard M. Mills, kicked off the program in American University of Armenia.In 2016-17, 61 Armenian women from a variety of professional fields will mentor 62 women BA and MA student from different universities as well as students from the “Houso Aygi” Young Women Charitable Foundation and the “Mer Doon” Organization."Our program targets young women. Although women are important building blocks of society, their involvement in senior positions in the public and private sector remains low”, said Lee Carter.According to him, the involvement of women in middle and lower levels of career are quite satisfactory, but they would like to see more female managers and directors. The aim of this project, as Lee Carter says, is supporting women in this case.President of Women and Youth Development and Support Center NGO, Executive Director of IATC Educational Fund Hasmik Sahakyan, highlighting the importance of mentoring, said that Armenian students are really interested in getting mentoring experience.“This program is meant to once again prove that mentoring also has a place in our society. Its role is especially important and significant in the development of young women”, said Hasmik Sahakyan.According to her, the organizers have done everything to choose the right mentors and participants. She expressed the hope that the year will be productive and interesting for the participants that they would be willing to act as a mentor in the future.US Embassy and the American University of Armenia mentoring program started in 2010.
