Russian Railways (RZD) has refined its position on the construction of Iran-Armenia railway. “As noted earlier, RZD believes that in geopolitical terms the railway construction project bears high strategic importance for Armenia in the context of integrating the republic’s transport infrastructure into the Eurasian and global transport system. Along with that, as noted earlier, the high value and long terms of the payback period of such large-scale projects make them less business-attractive and their realization is difficult without the support of the government. Russian and global practice show that state support for strategic infrastructure projects creates a multiplicative effect for the industry and is highly important for sustainable economic development on the whole,” reads the press release published on the company’s official website. RZD President Vladimir Yakunin said earlier he believed the project of Iran-Armenia railway construction to be ineffective and compared it with an attempt to “open a window to nowhere.” Tweet Views 15108
