MegaFon subscribers are now able to link their mobile accounts to Apple Pay or Samsung Pay by creating a Mastercard virtual card thanks to their operator’s partnership with Mastercard.

According to MegaFon press service, subscriber can link the card in the personal account and start using the service right away, the mobile phone thus becoming a digital payment tool. The new service is available for all MegaFon subscribers since March 1.

The company earlier allowed subscribers to make payments via mobile phone, but with a plastic card.


“This unique project enables us to offer new possibilities for our subscribers in Russia and create a precedent in global practice. I believe this will not only make new payment technologies more accessible, but also open new perspectives for telecommunication sector in terms of financial services,” said Yan Kukhalsky, New Business and Partnerships Director at MegaFon.

According to him, subscribers don’t need to visit a bank office or fill in any forms and applications in order to create a virtual card, because MegaFon’s subscriber base has been identified by the operator.
