Sberbank is going to launch a QR code payment service in partner shops via the Sberbank Online app.

Vedomosti reports with reference to a Sberbank representative that the pilot version of the service will be launched soon. Customers will only need to scan the given product’s QR code on their phone and confirm the payment. The service will be available on any smartphone with Sberbank Online app and access to internet.

According to the Sberbank representative, research showed that clients are ready to use the new service, which will be supported by all Sberbank’s partner shops. At the same time, the new payment method will be convenient for customers who use courier delivery and self-service terminals.

The bank emphasized that QR codes are a convenient payment method in the channel where clients are used to making transactions and the new service is aimed at complementing the existing payment services, including bank card acquiring.

QR (quick response) code is an image containing encrypted text that can be deciphered by any smartphone with the corresponding app installed. Client needs to point the camera at the code, and the app will decipher it and suggest the appropriate action.
