The Dilijan textile factory and its adjacent area are planned to be transformed into a modern multi-functional space to host the co-location of enterprises and individuals. The project is focused on the development of small business and creative industries with the involvement of residents of Dilijan and Tavush region.The official launch of the project “Enhancing private sector-led economic growth in Dilijan and adjacent communities” was held on the 7th of June in Dilijan Municipality with the participation of Andrea Wiktorin Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, David Sargsyan, Mayor of Dilijan, Narek Ghushchyan, Deputy Governor of the Tavush Region.The EU-funded project (EUR 1 mln) is implemented by Dilijan Municipality in partnership (and co-funding) with IDeA foundation, Tourism and Urbanism Foundation and Dilijan Community Center. The Project is implemented in the framework of the EU regional “Mayors for Economic Growth” Facility.The area for renovation is 5 500 m2 (3500 m2 plus garden), which will be constructed as a multi-functional cultural and production hub – dedicating spaces for artisanal production, leisure, art, commerce, innovation, and tourism. The adjacent territory will be transformed into park and recreation area. Within the project, it’s also planned to develop a Business Support Center, Creative Industries Hub, launch a coworking centre with incubator and accelerator, establish Hospitality Business Association, Extended employment Center of Dilijan, promote social and economic inclusion, etc.The aim of the project is to enhance economic growth and job creation in the enlarged Dilijan community, stimulate business development, invest in hard and soft infrastructure, exploring new business opportunities that can have a catalytic and systemic effect. “The European Union continues supporting local and regional authorities in Armenia, since we believe strongly in the role of local actors to champion local development and growth. We hope that the refurbished “KariFabrika” will boost economic activity in Dilijan and in the region of Tavush by supporting incubation and acceleration of regional small and medium businesses and making available much needed advisory and support services in a unique multi-functional space,” emphasized Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Wiktorin in her opening remarks.“The project is opening up larger opportunities not only for Dilijan community but also for the whole region as well. Dilijan Municipality has always been ready for partnerships and implementation of joint projects.
