Yerevan, August 16 /Mediamax/. The press service of the Central Bank of Armenia made a statement, which read that “the cases of damage of the communication cables in Yerevan, which became more frequent in the course of the recent few days, hinder the normal activity of the financial-banking system of the republic”.

As Mediamax was told in the CB press service, “because of the damages, the communication between the Central Bank, the Head Offices of commercial banks and their branches is hindered, as a result of which many payments are delayed”. Besides, the CB press service noted, difficulties occur while using the cash-machines and the POS-terminals.

“The Central Bank has turned to the corresponding bodies and informs that the above-mentioned problems are of particularly technical character and are by no means connected to the activity of the banking system”, the CB press service noted.

Commenting on this statement on Mediamax’s request, Spokeswoman of “ArmenTel” Hasmik Chutilian stated that the Company informed last week that, in connection with the construction works, which the City Administration of Yerevan is carrying out on the crossroads of Tigran Mets-Khanjian, Vardanants-Khanjian, Nalbandian-Alek Manukian-Isahakian streets, “ArmenTel” is realizing a transfer of the cables in the mentioned territories, as a result of which certain telephone numbers may be disconnected for up to two days.

Spokeswoman of “ArmenTel” stressed that the applications of certain commercial banks, which turned to the company with the request to provide them with alternative communication channels, were timely met. ““ArmenTel” has not received any applications from the Central Bank”, Hasmik Chutilian stated.

In its turn, “Unibank” stated today that the normal work of all its cash-machines, which was interrupted on August 13 because of the damaged cable of “ArmenTel”, will be resumed on August 16.
