A series of conferences with Armenian Ambassadors to foreign countries and international organizations and leaders of missions was launched today at the residence of Armenian President.

According to Armenian presidential press service, today’s conference was dedicated to matters of Armenia-Iran relations agenda, current projects, and new initiatives.

The President asked Armenian Ambassador to Iran Artashes Tumanyan to prepare a detailed report on economic component of Armenia-Iran relations. In particular, the President was interested in opportunities Armenia has to become a top transit channel on the road connecting Persian Gulf ports with Black Sea ports.

“We are working to find an opportunity to have a railway communication with Iran as well, but I don’t think it’s enough. We’d like to understand what Iranian side thinks, what additional steps we can take so that Armenia is viewed as a top transit channel. It is not just Iranian transport driving through Armenia, but a very significant incentive for development of Armenian economy,” noted Serzh Sargsyan.

The President also inquired about cooperation in energy sphere, as well as opportunities for Iranian investments in Armenia.

Artashes Tumanyan remarked that the issue of financing for the infrastructural project of the third Iran-Armenia high-voltage line, which is very important for Armenia, was resolved.

“The project is currently in construction phase and will be completed in 2018, according to the schedule,” observed Ambassador.
