From October 25 Russian banks that issue and accept Mir cards will introduce a new method of payment with the use of QR codes generated on a client’s mobile device. Izvestia reports about this with the reference to the bulletin of the National Payment System. The document emphasizes that such transactions will be carried out only after the authentication of the cardholder. Reading a new type of QR code will also require improvements on the side of sellers. The Mir payment system plans to provide banks with the technical ability to introduce a payment service using QR codes generated in mobile devices of cardholders, Izvestia was told in the press service of the payment system. They specified that as the technology is introduced within the bank, credit institutions will be able to start providing this service to their customers.“The QR code in this case acts as another form factor of the card and allows to pay for goods and services without presenting a bank card, only with the help of a smartphone. The holder of the Mir card generates a QR code on his/her mobile device and presents it for reading by a scanner in a trade establishment,” the National Payment System explained. Russian Standard Bank is involved in the development and implementation of a new method of payment using national cards, its representative told Izvestia. Otkritie bank is also planning to introduce the project. The credit institution clarified that the new method provides for several scenarios for generating QR codes: in the bank’s mobile application and in MirPay.“This method will be more convenient than the one operating now in the Fast Payment System (FPS). It is assumed that the buyer will only open the bank’s mobile application and show the QR code to the seller. Now users need to perform an order of magnitude more actions: turn on the smartphone’s camera, scan a QR code, open a mobile application and confirm the payment,” Otkritie noted. 06.06.2022 | 09:41 Sber consolidates its payment services under SberPay brand Sber reminded that they have launched Pay QR contactless phone payment service, which is now called Sberpay QR Payment.
