Amazon opened first in history checkout-free automated grocery store. The store in Seattle called Amazon Go will operate with the technologies, applied for unmanned vehicles.

According to Vedomosti, to start shopping, customers must scan an Amazon Go smartphone app and pass through a gated turnstile. Then customers can take all the necessary items, put them into a special shopping bag and leave the building.

If customers grab an item off a shelf, the product is automatically put into the shopping cart of their online account. If customers put the item back on the shelf, Amazon removes it from their virtual basket.  

The automated store was in the test phase a year ago, used only by the employees of the company. A few days ago the store opened its doors to the public, but Amazon still doesn’t talk plans on opening new automated stores.



The New York Times correspondent, who have already visited the store, compared his experience with shoplifting, as customers don’t interact with the personnel. “It is only a few minutes after walking out of the store, when Amazon sends an electronic receipt for purchases”.
