Exclusive interview of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Chief Economist Erik Berglöf to Mediamax

- Mr. Berglöf, during your recent speech in Yerevan you have highlighted the necessity of speeding up reforms in the fight against corruption. We would like to know what primary steps in the fight against corruption should be taken in Armenia?

- Corruption is an endemic problem and a major obstacle on the way to sustainable growth in many of the countries in which the Bank [EBRD] invests.  Good governance, transparency and accountability are absolutely crucial to the activities and the mission of the EBRD. Making significant progress in tackling corruption is essential to improve the attractiveness of any country, including Armenia, for investors. And it is equally important for the stability and long-term development prospects of the whole transition region.
