UK Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Catherine Leach said that the exploitation of Amulsar mine can create the best example of responsible mining in Armenia.

She stated it in an interview with Aravot.

“Our activities are aimed at not only bringing British companies to Armenia but improving the business environment. In this field, our activities have proved successful on a small scale. The main project we support now is Amulsar project. It’s a very good example when aiding private and commercial activities we try to address more global issues as well, that is - to create the best example of responsible mining in Armenia. So, on a particular example, we try to show the Armenian government the possibility of implementation of responsible mining at the same time giving the tools which will help reach it. In this regard, we need to work with interested parties - NGOs, local people and society. Transparency of responsible mining is a concrete and important initiative which the government should join and show its participation”, Catherine Leach said.
