Yerevan /Mediamax/. On November 30 resident Ambassadors in Armenia and representatives of international organizations visited UWC Dilijan at the invitation of IDeA (Initiatives for Development of Armenia) Foundation. The guests visited the school construction site, learned about UWC Dilijan, its program and admissions requirements, and were introduced to other Dilijan development projects.

“There is a great deal of interest in UWC Dilijan from both Armenians and foreigners residing in Armenia. Therefore, we decided to organize this event to present the school to the members of the international family in Armenia.  The school will have its first 90 students in September 2014.  Admissions have started already and I encourage all potential applicants to hurry up and apply through www.am.uwc.org,” said Executive Director of IDeA Foundation Artak Melkonyan.

“We are excited about this. We’re looking forward very much to the opening of this international school. It’s going to be a great mix of students, local and diaspora kids and also expat kids without ‘ian’ as their last name,” said U.S. Ambassador John Heffern.  “We think it’s the right model for Armenia to attract kids from all over the world, even those who don’t have an Armenian connection. I understand there is going to be a pretty good size scholarship fund. So it’s not just a school for rich kids, it’s going to be a school open for any qualified student. You’ve got to be a smart kid to go there. It’s going to be a high class high quality school. They are making a very strong effort. The Foundation needs to raise the funds so that the financial need will not keep anybody away.”

“I was recently appointed Ambassador of Romania to Armenia. We are looking for a good school for our children, which will give them a good background for the future.  We were very happy when we discovered there is a UWC school being built in Armenia because UWC is very well known worldwide,” said the newly appointed Romanian Ambassador Sorin Vasile.

UWC Dilijan is a large-scale charity project of the IDeA Foundation. In October 2014 Dilijan International School became a full member of the United World Colleges (UWC) under the name of UWC Dilijan.  The school was recently granted an “IB World School” status, which will give its graduates the opportunity to continue their education in the best universities worldwide.

The school will open its doors in 2014 for its first 90 16-18 year-old students.  In 2023 a total of 650 students from 60 countries will study in UWC Dilijan. The tuition fee of most of the students will be covered by the scholarship fund. The number of students from Armenia will compose 10-12% of the total student body.
