Yerevan/Mediamax/. “Geoteam” made a statement today on the occasion of the scheduled trip to Amulsar.“We learnt from the social networks and online media outlets that “Jermuk won’t Become a Mine” civil initiative organizes “a trip to Amulsar” on June 9, 2012.We inform that under the licenses granted and current Armenian laws the Company implements works in Amulsar and neighboring areas which includes environmental monitoring of adjacent territories. The land is leased by the Company. It’s not allowed to hold any public event, trip or a meeting in the leased area. The health and security norms adopted by the Company don’t permit holding of mass events including social trips in the area. Taking into account these circumstances, the Company urges the organizers and participants of the trip not to hinder the regular works of the Company and don’t invade into the Company’s area.At the same time, we suggest the members of “Jermuk won’t Become a Mine” civil initiative and those concerned about Jermuk getting acquainted with the “Yerkir” publication of May 30, 2012, which reads that there are open basalt mines in Jermuk and the town garbage-heap with its two sections currently containing 40 thousand cubic meters of solid waste is located adjacent to the banks of the Dali river. Maybe the members of the social cause had better speak about these serious environmental problems in Jermuk in the first place instead of organizing “a trip to Amulsar”. It should be noted that “Geoteam” company has been conducting an environmental monitoring in the area since 2007 guided by the laws of the Republic of Armenia and standards set by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Economic and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) is currently coming to an end and it’s planned to present its results to the interested communities in summer of 2012. The Company has informed the Police of the Vayots Dzor and Syunik Marzes in writing about the planned trip to prevent any illegal action or provocation”, the statement reads. Tweet Views 3993
