As of January- August 2011, the volume of cargo transportations on the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) made 2036.1 thousand tons exceeding the index of the same period of 2010 by 4.3%.The actual volume of cargoes transported over the eight months of 2011 exceeded the index scheduled for the mentioned period (1893.1 thousand tons according to forecasts) by 7.6%, Mediamax was informed in the press service of the SCR.As of January-August 2011, 274.8 thousand tons of cargoes were transported through the SCR export communication which exceeds the index of the same period of 2010 by 27.1%. The volume of cargo transportations in import communication made 836.7 thousand tons as of the eight months of 2011 which is by 11.9% less than the January-August index of 2010. 924.6 thousand tons of cargoes were transported in the local communication in the accounting period of 2011 which exceeds the index of the same period of 2010 by 17.6%. “2 years ago, the share of cargo transportations within the overall cargo transportation structure of Armenia made 22% whereas this index currently makes 35%. The technologies introduced into the railway will allow ensuring a brand new quality of services provided by the SCR, attract new volumes of cargoes to the railway, substantially enhance the level of competitiveness of railway transportations as compared to vehicle ones”, stated the Director General of SCR Shevket Shaidullin.
