Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian presented certificates to students, who have demonstrated high progress in studies and who have received scholarships, in Yerevan State University (YSU) today. Mediamax reports that the program is realized at the initiative and at the means of the Youth Foundation of Armenia (YFA). The Coordinator of YFA Board of Trustees Karen Avagyan stated that the program of such a volume is for the first time being held in the educational sphere in Armenia. The scholarships are issued for first year students from insecure families, who are on paid education. From 800 applications submitted, 572 students received scholarships. The scholarships of 20 students, having excellent grades, make 120 thousand AMD, and the remaining ones – 100 thousand AMD. Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian stated: “First of all, we should together take as a basis the knowledge and economy and the society, based on knowledge. I am sure that the modern society is a world of competition of knowledge. If we want to build a modern society, it should be based on knowledge. Basing on that, we should value people, who have knowledge, who devote their lives to education. I want to assure that the government will do everything for this type of people to lead the country, reforms, and be an example people will strive for”. The Prime Minister expressed concern in connection with the fact that young men in Armenia usually have worse study experience than girls, and added that this will become a serious topic for discussions.
