Yerevan/Mediamax/. Issue of activating capital market of Armenia should be solved through securing participation of institutional investors in it, Deputy General Director of “NASDAQ OMX Armenia” Stock Exchange Karen Zakaryan stated.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at “Direct Foreign Investments in Armenia” Forum in Yerevan today, Karen Zakaryan stated that Armenian institutional investors, in particular, insurance companies, investment and pension funds either do not yet exist or are extremely passive.

According to Karen Zakaryan, in order to solve this problem, one should allow institutional investors investing in shares of companies, quoted in the highest category of the stock exchange (“A” list).

Deputy Director of the Stock Exchange brought the example of Poland, the legislation of which allows institutional investors investing in securities of companies, quoted on Warsaw Stock Exchange. “This led to the fact that the Polish capital market in the course of a few years registered multiple growth”, Karen Zakaryan stated.

He noted that in the view of this, Poland is put pressure on by the EU, which, however, does not threat Armenia, which is not a member of the European Union. “Here, of course, there is certain risk, but it is important not to neutralize risks, but to manage them”, Karen Zakaryan stated.

He also noted the necessity to stir up Armenian companies, which render investment and brokerage services.

Presenting the capacities of “NASDAQ OMX Armenia”, Karen Zakaryan stated that the Armenian Stock Exchange has the widest range of services in the region, noting that “if an Exchange with such resources functioned in Russia, it would be very successful”.
