Yerevan/Mediamax/. According to global competitiveness report for 2010-2011, Armenia occupies the 138th place from among 139 researched countries as to efficiency of state anti-monopoly policy.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today, Director of “Economy and Research” Research Center (Armenian partner of the Global Competitiveness Center) Manuk Hergnian stated that among the most significant shortcomings of Armenia, the research notes also the intensiveness of local competition (136th place), state policy of technology product purchase (134th place), present of dominating groups in the market (133rd place) and presence of local sources of share financing (131st place).

The average competitiveness rating of Armenia in the report went down one point as compared to the previous year (98th place among 139 countries).

According to Manuk Hergnian, positive shift is registered in spheres of healthcare and education. At the same time, significant deterioration was registered in Armenia’s ratings on macroeconomic stability line (lowering for 46 points to the 99th place) and the level of financial market development (lowering for 13 points to the 110th place). Lowering for 8 points is also registered in the sphere of innovations (down to the 116th place).

Commenting on Mediamax’s request on reduction of the rating in the mentioned spheres, Manuk Hergnian stated that it is mainly conditioned by negative shifts in the state budget balance, increase of the state debt and decline in bank interest rates.

Authors of the global competitiveness report analyze the data on countries and classify them as to the index of competitiveness. This index, in its turn, is estimated basing on 12 basic indices. The ratings are based on statistical data and results of polls among heads of companies.

According to the results of the report for 2010-2011, leaders of the rating are Switzerland, Sweden and Singapore. The leader among CIS countries as to competitiveness is Azerbaijan (57th place), then comes Russia (63rd place), Georgia occupies the 93rd place in the list.
