Yerevan /Mediamax/. The opening of the world’s longest reversible ropeway, connecting Alidzor village with Tatev monastery, will take place on October 16.

Funicular and infrastructure construction works Head, Member of Council of National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia (NCFA) Artashes Kazakhetsyan informed that construction works are at the final stage and testing works will be launched in September.

The highest point of funicular makes 330 meters, and the length of the ropeway is 5.7 kilometers. The duration of the road makes 11 minutes 25 seconds.  Funicular cab includes 25 persons.

Artashes Kazakhetsyan stated that NCFA plans to implement works on gardening and improvement the nearest territory of the ropeway. He stated that the residents of Syunik marz are mainly involved in construction works.

Funicular construction is implemented by “Garaventa” Austrian-Swiss company, and infrastructure construction works are implemented by “RENCO” Italian company.

The total cost for ropeway construction project makes $13mln.

“Tatev Revival” project Head Vanik Vardanyan informed that the total cost of the project makes $45mln, $20 mln of which was donated by “Ruben and Veronika Vardanyans and friends” foundation. Business plan will be developed to attract the rest of the sum.

Construction works to repair the road are implemented by Armenian government, and NCFA carries out recovery work of the road, leading directly to Tatev monetary complex.

Vanik Vardanyan said that “Tatev Revival” program is an obvious example of the cooperation between the government and the private sector, directed at the development of the region and stimulating tourism in Armenia.

It is planned to complete the restoration of monetary complex in 2013. The second stage of the program considers hotel construction.
