Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian government made a decision today to allocate 10mln AMD to rebuild music school N6 in Gyumri. Mediamax reports that, speaking at the session of the government today, Minister of Finance of Armenia Tigran Davtyan stated that “the government’s contribution, per se, is symbolic, and makes about 10% of the sum, necessary for building the music school”. “Our contribution aims at assuring the organizers of the charitable campaign of the support and gratitude of the Armenian government”, Tigran Davtyan stated. In his turn, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian noted that the project on rebuilding music school N6 in Gyumri was the result of relations between the British rock stars and their Armenian fans, who did not forget about the aid, provided to Armenia by the musicians after Spitak earthquake within the framework of Rock Aid Armenia project. “Lead singer of Deep Purple Ian Gillan has a great personal contribution to this”, Armenian Prime Minister stressed. The project on reestablishing music school N6 in Gyumri is being jointly realized by Mediamax, Australian “Do Something” organization (its Director Jon Dee was the one to initiate Rock Aid Armenia project in 1989) and the “Fund for Armenian Relief”. The school was destroyed after the earthquake of 1988 and is still in temporary shelters. On October 1-2, 2009, rock stars Ian Gillan, Tony Iommi, Geoff Downes, tennis star Pat Cash and Jon Dee visited the school within the framework of Armenia Grateful 2 Rock project, organized by Mediamax, and made a decision to assist its rebuilding. Early this year, Ian Gillan and Tony Iommi sent professional musical instruments as a gift for the school. Mediamax and Do Something organized Ian Gillan’s charitable concerts with State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, which took place on March 26 and 27 in Yerevan. The entire proceeds from the concerts ($ 45.000) were directed to the Fund for rebuilding the school. In 2010-2011, Iran Gillan, Tony Iommi, Jon Dee and Mediamax intend to realize a few projects, aiming at raising funds for the school rebuilding. Tweet Views 11923
