Yerevan /Mediamax/. Chairman of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Armenia (UIEA) Arsen Kazaryan stated that due to opening of “Upper Lars” control checkpoint on Georgian-Russian border, the transit expenses for transportation of goods from Yerevan to Moscow will reduce by 20-25%.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today, Arsen Kazaryan stated that the number of land cargo transportation will also increase, and this will become a significant stimulus for increase of export volumes.

UIEA Chairman reminded that after the control checkpoint closed in 2006, Armenia used only the car ferry, and this introduced certain limitations in organizing the cargo transportation.

Arsen Kazaryan stated that opening of “Upper Lars” control checkpoint became possible due to consistent work of Armenia’s political leadership, in particular, the country’s President.

Chairman of UIEA also noted that opening of the control checkpoint is a big life buoy for Armenian exporter producers, who have undergone significant losses over the past 4 years. He expressed hope that in the nearest future Armenian producers will increase export volumes and Armenia will again occupy its positions in traditional markets.
