Yerevan /Mediamax/. Conference on competitiveness of the pharmaceutical sector took place in Yerevan today. Mediamax reports that the Head of “Liqvor” pharmaceutical company Sergey Matevosyan presented a report on the current state of the sector in Armenia at the conference. In 10 months, 2009, the volume of medicine import to Armenia made $60.38mln, and in 2008 this index made $59.53mln. The volume of medicine production in Armenia in the accounting period made over 1.7bln AMD, having increased for 113mln AMD, as compared to 2008. At that, the volume of export in 10 months, 2009, made $2.78mln, and in 2008 it made $3.46mln. There are 12 producers of medicine functioning in Armenia. Sergey Matevosyan noted that 76 names of medicines out of the basic list (342), or 22%, fall on the share of ones produced in Armenia. He stressed the necessity to make that index reach 40% by 2015 and increase the annual volumes of export to $10mln. According to Sergey Matevosyan, before that, one needs to carry our modernization or old and construction of new enterprises. Among the problems of the pharmaceutical sector in Armenia, Head of “Liqvor” company singled out the unfair marketing steps, deficit of qualified specialists and financial resources, orientation to purely CIS countries’ markets.
