Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsian stated in Yerevan today that “the forecasts on the collapse of our statehood did not come true”. Mediamax reports that, speaking at the congress of “Prosperous Armenia” party today, the President stated that “we should oppose social populism using professionalism and competency”. According to the President, only this way it will be possible to mitigate the influence of the financial-economic crisis and minimize the risks. Serzh Sargsian criticized the statements on “political implication” in the agreement on provision of a stabilization loan to Armenia by Russia and stated the necessity of healthy discussions on ways to withstand crisis. “The present situation forces the Armenian government to take up non-standard decisions. We talk about measures, directed to protect the domestic producer and stimulate export, changes in tax and customs legislation. All this will attach new breath to our economy”, the President stated. Serzh Sargsian stressed that he is not a supporter of frequent changes in economic legislation, however, “there is no other way out today”. “We have to protect domestic business, protect our economy, and from this point of view, the government has taken the right path”, the President stated. Talking about the activity of “Prosperous Armenia” party within the coalitional government, the President expressed pleasure with the cooperation, noting that the coalitional forces will continue further on working to benefit the country and the people.
