Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsian held a working meeting with leaders of commercial banks of Armenia today.

As Mediamax was told in the presidential press service, the President stated that the meeting is aimed at specifying actions in conditions of the global economic crisis aggravation.

“Due to our banks, we managed to withstand the first wave of the crisis without serious losses. I believe this was first of all conditioned by our weighted policy both in issues of attracting means and their placement. I many times heard opinions of people, according to which they trust Armenian banks. This, of course, is an advantage, and we should use it to the maximum effect. Now, when the financial crisis is followed by the economic one, we should together take up efficient measures, render support to economy branches, which may bring profit, develop and create new workplaces”, Serzh Sargsian stated.

The President noted that the banking system of Armenia should become a “life-giving source” for small and medium enterprise, and banks will receive state support in this.

We will support your efforts, will constantly seek and find means, provide those means to you, and you should use them to develop our economy, to increase export”, the President stressed.

“We cannot remain isolated and say that the global crisis will not influence Armenian economy, but there are many factors, allowing us minimizing the crisis consequences”, Serzh Sargsian stated.

During the meeting, they also discussed other issues, related to the banking system. They, in particular, discussed problems, related to long-term crediting and low interest rates and real estate and moveable property pawning.

The President discussed with the bankers the possible ways to solve all the voiced problems and noted that the final solutions for many of the presented issues will not take long to appear.
