Yerevan /Mediamax/. “Economy and Values” Research Center presented the Global Competitiveness Report 2008-2009## of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Yerevan today.

Mediamax reports that the Center’s Director Manuk Hergnyan informed that Armenia occupies the 97th place in the Report among 134 states, having yielded 4 points, as compared to 2007.

The assessment is carried out basing on statistical data, the information, provided by international organizations, as well as polls among representatives of business, carried out in Armenia in April, 2008.

According to the Report, in 2008, slight progress in the spheres of healthcare, education and the financial market was registered in Armenia, the state of institutions and the market volume remained unchanged, and regress was registered in the remaining spheres.

“Regress is especially noticeable in the sphere of macroeconomic stability, where Armenia fell down from the 57th to the 87th position, the fact being conditioned by the recent political developments in the country”, Manuk Hergnyan stated.

The Center’s Director said that at present Armenia’s economy is making a transition from the stage, based on resources, to the stage, based on efficiency, and in connection with this the competition becomes stronger.
