National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA) permitted the commercial banks to resume money transfers through Western Union and Moneygram starting from August 14. Mediamax reports referring Trend that, starting from July 30, by the order of NBA, the operations with those payment systems were interrupted because of their activity in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. The decision on resumption of work with them was made, basing on the commitments to stop the activity of Western Union and Moneygram in NKR. Vice-President of Western Union Jonathan Knaus stated at a meeting on August 7 in Baku with the leadership of NBA that they were stopping business relations with “organizations in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan”. Moneygram payment system also fulfilled the requirements, put forward by Azerbaijan. Earlier, NBA ordered the commercial banks of the country to stop money transfers through Western Union and Moneygram, which continued operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
