Yerevan /Mediamax/. In the course of the nearest two years##, one of the most modern fixed connection networks in the world will start functioning in Armenia, the Technical Director of “VimpelCom” Company for CIS states Ilya Chulyukin said this in Yerevan today.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a briefing in Yerevan today, Ilya Chulyukin stated that a fundamentally new convergent network will be implemented in Armenia, which will provide for a set of products of mobile and fixed connection.

The Technical Director of “VimpelCom” for CIS states informed that at present deep modernization of the fixed connection network of “ArmenTel” is in process. At that, he noted, in Armenia, as in the majority of CIS states, global problems exist as to the number capacity and the problem of substituting the Soviet copper wires.

Talking about the mobile connection of “ArmenTel”, Ilya Chulyukin stated that in 2007, new commutators of 2G and 3G were implemented, as well as a modern billing system with on-line roaming tariffing.

Answering the question of Mediamax on what the first elements of 3G will be in Armenia, Ilya Chulyukin stated that it will be a solution, allowing conveying “in one bunch” broadband internet asses and voice connection.

The Technical Director of “VimpelCom” for CIS states stressed that the work on modernization of the mobile and fixed networks of “ArmenTel” are taking place simultaneously.
