Yerevan/Mediamax/. Today Transparency International published its 20th edition of the Corruption Perceptions Index 2014, in which Armenia (37 points) ranks the 94th among 174 countries.

Armenia shared this place with Columbia, Egypt, Gabon, Liberia and Panama. Armenia received 2013 points in 2013 and 34 points the year prior to that.

Transparency International’s Index classifies countries on a scale from 0 to 100 in which 0 is perceived to be highly corrupt and 100 is perceived to be very clean.

Denmark, New Zealand and Finland come in the first three places in the Index. As to the countries in the last place, North Korea and Somalia share it.

Among former USSR countries, Georgia enjoys the most beneficial position; it ranks the 50th with 52 scores.

Turkey comes in the 64th place (45 scores), Azerbaijan in the 126th (29 scores), while Iran and Russia share the 136th place with 27 points.

“The 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that economic growth is undermined and efforts to stop corruption fade when leaders and high level officials abuse power to appropriate public funds for personal gain,” said Chair of Transparency International José Ugaz.

China, Turkey and Angola are among the biggest fallers. These countries were reported to have a drop of 4 or 5 points, despite average economic growth of more than 4% over the recent years.
