HSBC has been granted a stablecoin issuer licence by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). HSBC aims to launch a Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) stablecoin in the second half of 2026, Finextra reports.The HKD stablecoin will be accessible to users through PayMe and HSBC apps. Users will be able to use stablecoin to transact Peer-to-Peer payments, Peer-to-Merchants payments, and tokenised investments.Stablecoins issued by HSBC will be backed by liquid assets held in segregated accounts.In May 2025, HSBC introduced a tokenised deposit service in Hong Kong.
