Sberbank has created an AI-based mechanism for revealing hidden links between legal entities. The mechanism is needed to determine what business exactly the bank’s given client does.

Rusbase reports that Sberbank has formed a single client profile that keeps the data about transactions and services of the bank, which the client uses, as well as external information from public bases including lending companies and state bodies.

With the AI technology, Sberbank analyzes all that data and reveals links between legal entities, even if the client did not disclose them. The mechanism is needed to determine what business exactly the given client does.


“Clients have 10-15 codes of economic activity. The official accounts usually register the first code, but it often does not match with the business the client really has. We can determine the clients’ actual businesses through their payments and the payments of their contractors,” said Sberbank Vice President Stanislav Kartashov.

Sberbank’s database contains information about 7.5 million legal entities and entrepreneurs, as well as over 17 million individuals who own companies or hold decision-making positions in them.

According to Kartashov, Sberbank use AI for lending services as well. Currently, the bank issues one in four small business loans via AI and plans to increase the share of such loans up to 70% by 2023.
