Promsvyazbank has become the first bank in Russia to present a solution that allows sellers to receive cards of several payment systems (Visa, MasterCard and Mir) with the help of regular smartphones. According to Kommersant, this solution targets small businesses and individuals, doesn’t require additional equipment and implies reduction of tariffs. The first payment was carried out by applying Visa card to an entrepreneur’s smartphone. Then purchases with the help of MasterCard, as well as ApplePay and AndroidPay were tested. According to Nikita Khomutov, Deputy Director of the Electronic Business Department at Promsvyazbank, the product will mostly help small and microbusinesses, for which acquisition and service of POS-terminals are quite expensive. In December last year, MasterCard in cooperation with Sberbank presented “Sberbank TapOnPhone” app. The analogous technology was tested within the frames of the pilot project. As mentioned at MasterCard, “we continue to work with Sberbank on this project”. The main difference is that “Sberbank TapOnPhone” is being tested only with one payment system. Promsvyazbank promises to complete the pilot project till the end of October and start implementation. Banks have already suggested various options of using mobile devices as payment terminals. It is still unknown which technology will one day be more in demand, but the advantages of the variant which Sberbank and Promsvyazbank suggest imply absence of additional equipment, as well as simplicity and speed of the payment process.
