National Payment System of the Russian Central Bank has become available for QR code payments. The first similar purchase in Russia was enabled by Wildberries online retailer and Russian Standard Bank, Banki.ru portal reports. “Wildberries, the largest online retailer in Russia, became the first internet shop in Russia, which has carried out the pilot QR code payment through the National Payment System. Russian Standard Bank provided the payment opportunity using National Payment System technologies for e-commerce,” reports the press service of the Russian National Payment Card System. The technology of QR payment is very simple. The buyer will need to select QPS payment method, then scan the QR code, which is reflected on computer and the smartphone screen through the mobile app of the buyer’s bank and confirm the payment on the app. The bank should be a participant of the National Payment System. The payment will be transferred from the buyer’s account to the shop’s account after the purchase is complete. “According to the research, 39% of Russians make regularly cashless payments for goods and services of internet shops, the number which excludes those who make payments though mobile apps of their banks. We are convinced that the new cashless payment method of National Payment System will also be simple and in demand for Russians, who prefer making purchases online,” noted Chief Executive of Faster Payments at National Payment Card System Dmitry Kolesnikov.
