Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenia occupies the 97th place in Global Competitiveness Report for 2009-2010 among 133 countries worldwide.

Mediamax reports that the report was presented at a news conference in Yerevan today by the Chairman of “Economy and Values” Research Center Manuk Hergnyan.

“Economy and Values” is the partner of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Armenia.

According to Hergnyan, Armenia’s index has not changed from the previous year. At that, macroeconomic stability rating has gone up for 30 points, as compared to 2008, improvement in the spheres of the financial market and entrepreneurship made 10 and 8 points respectively. At the same time, rating lowering has taken place in efficiency of the market of goods (6 points), innovations, efficiency of the labor market and higher education and retraining (2points).

Among significant oversights, the report notes efficiency of antimonopoly policy, as to which Armenia occupies the 132nd place among 133 countries, the burden of tax procedures (131st place), presence of dominating groups in the market (129th place), etc.

Advantages of Armenia’s competitiveness are reflected in the report in the form of the small volume of state debt, regulation of the labor market, as well as agriculture policy.

Manuk Hergnyan noted that it is already the firth year that Armenia has been participating in the given report and within this period the country’s rating has almost been unchanged. According to him, the given report is a good barometer, which points to particular problems in economy.
