European Commission has adopted a package of proposals to negotiate EU-level comprehensive aviation agreements with key partner countries.They include the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) States, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States, Armenia, Turkey, China and Mexico.“In 2014 some 230.000 passengers travelled between the EU and Armenia. To further enhance direct connections based on common rules, the European Commission proposes negotiating a Common Aviation Area Agreement. A parallel process of reciprocal market access and regulatory convergence towards full implementation of the EU aviation acquis is foreseen”, European Commission statement reads. On December 7 Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced the launch of negotiations on a new Armenia-European Union framework agreement.Edward Nalbandian said in his statement that the Government of Armenia has expressed its readiness to conclude a Common Aviation Agreement, following the liberalization of the aviation market through the Open Skies Policy.
