The Board of Sberbank has approved the principles of ethics for the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the Sberbank Group.

In particular, the press center of Sberbank has stated, the board has approved five principles: “Controllability and manageability of AI systems” (Secure AI), “Transparency and predictability of the functioning of AI technologies” (Explainable AI), “Stability and reliability of AI systems” (Reliable AI), “Responsible use of AI” (Responsible AI), and “Unbiased AI” (Fair AI).

To implement these principles, Sberbank has created a working group on the ethics of the development and application of AI technologies.

These principles are mandatory for all members of Sberbank Group. They were developed taking into account the requirements of the National strategy for the development of artificial intelligence for up to 2030, approved by the President of Russia. Adherence to these principles will help ensure security and increase the confidence of society and Sber’s customers in AI, which is already used in most of the company’s processes, products and services.

“AI technologies, like any others, bring with them not only opportunities but also risks. By approving the ethical principles of the development and application of AI technologies and creating mechanisms for their implementation, we act in line with the best global practices and the National strategy for the development of AI. This is a large-scale, complex issue, so our rules and principles should be improved and specified.

We are open to hearing the views of the expert community, which we will take into account when updating our principles. For a number of ethical problems arising from the use of AI, we have yet to find answers, even taking into account the study of the best world experience in this area. That is why our principles will certainly be improved as humanity discovers solutions.

I especially want to note that these are Sberbank’s principles and we do not impose them on anyone outside our group. Moreover, we do not consider these principles ideal, and other companies do not have to use them in their activities,” stated Sberbank CEO German Gref.
