Sberbank is preparing to incorporate the technology of purchases in shops with the help of biometrics, using fingerprints or face recognition. VC.ru reports that the service will be available for holders of Sberbank cards, who agreed earlier to provide the bank with biometric details. First, the buyers should register in the system, for which shops will install bioterminals. The clients should insert the card and create a password, which will confirm all transactions, and then scan the fingerprint or face image. This will allow the users to pay with the help of their cards or biometric identification. It’s possible to attach only one card to this service. The purchased goods cannot be returned with the help of biometric details only, as one has to show the card as well in this case. The article reads that Sberbank announced tenders in 2019 for acquisition of biometric terminals with cameras and scanners for fingerprints. The bank launched its own system of collecting biometrical details in autumn of 2018. In December, CEO of Sberbank of Russia Herman Gref told that the bank has already saved “millions” of data.
