Armenia to reduce customs duty for cigarettes before the New Year and to sign agreements on free spirit trade

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian stated that Armenia is completing fulfillment of its commitments to the European Union as to free trade.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at the session of the government today, Tigran Sargsian stated that basing on the request of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Armenia should reduce the interest rate of the customs duty for cigarettes from 17-18% to 15%.

Prime Minister charged the State Revenue Committee of Armenia with elaborating the corresponding legislative amendments to fulfill this requirement. Tigran Sargsian changed the Committee with also elaborating and signing bilateral agreements on free trade of alcoholic beverages.

Prime Minister stated that these changes should come into force on January 1, 2011, and thus Armenia will complete fulfillment of its commitments to EU, which will allow the country receiving European grants and loans.
