Yerevan /Mediamax/. VivaCell-MTS Company plans to realize the commercial launch of third generation network (3G) this spring. Mediamax reports referring the statement of “MTS” OJSC that the first sections of 3G network will be located in Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor. “MTS” OJSC chose the Chinese Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd as a supplier of equipment to build 3G for VivaCell-MTS. The sum is not publicized, they only inform that the specialists of Huawei will realize the whole complex of works, related to construction and launch of the network into operation, integration of 3G network with GSM network already functioning in the country, as well as will organize technical support of 3G network operation and will share experience with MTS specialists. “3G network launch will create additional stimulus to develop mobile connection in Armenia and to strengthen our leader positions in the region. The new technology will contribute to satisfying the growing demands in efficient telecommunication solutions for both corporate and private customers of MTS”, Vice-President of “MTS” OJSC Oleg Raspopov stated. Mediamax notes that in September, 2008, “ArmenTel” Company (Beeline brand) announced the commercial launch of the first third generation (3G) mobile connection network in Armenia. A licence to provide 3G services is also provided to the third mobile connection operator of Armenia – “FTA-Telecom” (Orange brand), which plans to enter the market at the end of 2009.
